Corporate Sustainability

Production doesn’t have to equal pollution.

In Virginia, business operations overlap with over 65% of our greenhouse gas footprint, whether through transportation, manufacturing, or commercial building energy usage*. Cleaning up our state’s emissions and slowing climate change will require meaningful and lasting action across the entire economy.

This work starts by taking direct actions within your own business, and then by using the collective voice of the business community to advocate for further change. C3 helps organizations of all shapes and sizes walk the walk on climate so they can start talking the talk.

Join our growing team of green business partners and get started on your climate transformation today!

Green Business Alliance

C3’s Green Business Alliance (GBA) is a leadership circle of 16 like-minded mid and large-size businesses committed to managing their energy use, reducing costs, mitigating risk, and reducing their climate impact. Members embrace a shared climate action commitment and are empowered to achieve that commitment through solutions that work for their business.

C3 supports the GBA members by tracking their energy use, facilitating solutions as a group, and highlighting success. The GBA provides a forum to develop policy recommendations which advance members’ clean energy, energy efficiency, and transportation objectives. The inaugural GBA members have pledged to slash their Scope I/II emissions by 45% by 2025, matching the regional pledge by Albemarle and Charlottesville in half the time.

Better Business Challenge

Awards Night 2021

Since 2011, over 200 businesses have participated in this friendly competition to learn innovative ways to incorporate energy smart solutions and other sustainable business practices into their daily operations. The program culminates by awarding top performing climate leaders.

Stay tuned for a revised framework of the fifth round of the Better Business Challenge. We are working to roll this out in the fall of 2022!

Help us Strengthen Climate Policy at the State Level

State-level policy can have a big impact on our ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the local level. The Commonwealth has made great strides over the last several years. C3 wants that trend to continue, so we follow key issues in the General Assembly to ensure that those gains are protected and strengthened.
